Loveday Street Maternity Hospital records

My grandmother had a stillborn daughter in Loveday Street Maternity Hospital, probably in the early 1920's, would there be record somewhere of that event?

have you looked for a death certificate ..do you have the name of the child or the mothers name ? sadly as many of our members have found out still borns were very often buried with someone else at the foot of their graves and no burial records were made for them..it was common practice in those days

Thanks, I suspected as much. Sadly I don't have the babies name and only have my grandmothers full name. A quick death certificate search has yielded nothing...

If the baby was stillborn there will be no birth record or death record registered.

Stillbirth registration wasn't introduced until 1st July 1927.

William.

pete if you would like to give us your grandmothers name we could do a double check just in case...we have so many members who do not know what happened to their still born ancestors...i have a still born death cert for 1935 and she has a given name and for over 10 years i have been searching for her burial on behalf of a friend...all i know is the family was told she is a key hill but sadly no record for her..so sad really

Thanks Lyn, my grandmother: Alice Maud White nee Underwood, 12/03/1899 to 29/09/1987. My dad was born in 1922 and the stillborn sister some years later, I think?

i have found a death for a female white (no first name) which could indicate a still birth.. death reg 3rd quarter of 1923...do you think this is too soon after your dad was born ? can we rule her out or are you not certain...

there is also a death for olive N white born 1926 died 1926

also a vera white born 1926 died 1926...we could be looking for a needle in a haystack as i would think that there was a lot of infant deaths between 1922 and say 1930 but dont give up just yet as we may have some other members who may also be checking for you
