There was a time when buses used roads now converted to the metro or as pedestrian routes, or in this second case, sadly, the high speed electric bike raceway,

In this image the 59 is seen coming round from Colmore Row past the Town Hall and into the top of New Street.

This route commenced in the 1958 when BCT took over the 119 and 188 routes formerly operated by Midland Red. I think the 59 might have been a WMPTE service number.
