But they've repainted the Postbox from pink to gold:)

As Lyn said they got a great smoking area already, It's got a proper roof open three sides and a bar. now they've covered the one side with a clear plastic roof which I believe intervenes the no smoking in doors law.

right froth....you are obviously on the case with this one so we shall await any further developments...keep us posted...:):)

morning froth...:)

Morning Lyn. Wish I'd taken photos of it but they might have thought I was from the council or something. I haven't got the Balls you have:rolleyes:

That's amazing Lyn, I worked up the entry to the right of the pub at a place called Futura Signs, we always finished up in the pub if we were not out of town, the entry was the loading
bay for Restalls.

"Yeah, I got it Froth" You should have been a Comedian Mate lol!

"Having a drink in "The Lord Clifden", one evening, many years ago, We bumped into our old Form Teacher, Jack Pozzi, and we bought him a drink. A great teacher and a Gentleman to boot. Met my old History Teacher in "The Talbot" in Winson Green, a few years back, He was so Buckled, he could hardly speak. To think this is the man who gave me Detention once, cause I could'nt remember who won The War of The Rose's.

I was there on sunday for lunch, and looked at the post box and thought,
was it or was,nt it that colour the last time i was there,
and i was,nt even drunk.
We also went in the to the red lion in round the corner,
not a patch on the clifton.
We also had a tour round summer lane where they were born and worked.
Happy days. Derek

We had another mini meet today, well one extra me Daughter Lisa came.
Had a another meal in the Jewelers arms, went to the Rose Villa Tavern and went to the Jewelery museum. A good Day:)

just heard the word mini meet... this is becoming a habit now froth...:headhit::headhit: and now you have encouraged derek to go wondering off round the streets:D:D

only joking...hope you all had a good time....:)

Ok lets put all these discussions into proper order..in a world where pubs are closing at a rate of knots the gaffer here has improved and innovated what was a run down boozer into a top and I mean top pub in Birmingham. So much so that it crops up in tourist info blogs around the world indeed some guys booked a cheap flight over from Paris had a weekend mainly in the pub and were so impressed they may come back for another weekend!. Although this is a history site and I love it, one has to be aware of rose tinted specs with history, a lot of the good old days were nothing of the sort and for me you can keep the crappy often dirty pubs of yore. Ok so its not cheap but you do get what you pay for and times move on even if some of us get left behind. Odds are without the changes we would have a boarded up up building or, worse the pink abomination that is the former Gothic or the windblown and now tree shorn Duke of York. It's a no brainer..celebrate the past but enjoy a good meal and pint at the Clifden..onwards and upwards...bloody hell bet that starts a discussion!!!!

I agree with you mate.
I haven't been knocking the Clifden, far from it in fact I love the place. It just seems ashame that they're losing all the open space at the back and all the knick knacks they had out there.

check it out when finished the block paving is top of the range and the knick knacks will return I believe, when it is all finished...happy drinking
