Hoppe you are well as i aint to bad at the moment apar from loosing my site in my left eye but still hope fully they will put me right next week in the royal at worcestershire where they are gonna operate on it and i hope you do not mind me butting in on this thread about the queen vic ,
but i also wanted to know about a queen vic so i thought if our members are looking for a pic on your queen vic i thought may i could asked if its okay to asked about the queen vic in bordesly green which is at the bottom end of bordesly green rd where the number eight crosses it lays back off the bordesly green rd and it is a very big pub with history
but it also as a big momument of the queens head mounted about the building and i was wondering if any body or member of this forum could tell us about it as to when it was built and may be a picture of thaty as well as i know it as had history it his a very bigbuilding is it still there or as it gone now

Gosh Astonian, I sure hope they can get a little sight back for you. Superheroes shouldn't have to undergo such worrying irritations...

Here's a couple of shots of the Vic. I played football for them for quite a few years and used the pub quite a lot in my youth. Rough and ready but great people. No idea where the Queen's head went, but the pub was still there last time I went past. Different clientele with different backgrounds and history now...

many thanks for finding the pub pictures for me and i am sure some of our forum members will really appreciate you putting them up
i do have a genuine intrest in that particular public house and its history over the years i have been in there and i do know the clintele as changed dramiticaly it was intresting to hear you layed foot ball for the pub i presume its your youger days
i have oter friends in the trade whom ran most of the other local pubs in that area
I do not supose you know whom was the last but one manager was do you den i would love to know
yes the figure head was above the building years ago i clearly remember it
i surpose its like the wagon and horses over mosely been took across the water if its the people i think had it at the time i have asked about any way how is life treating you i look forewarded to reading your history threds there great keep them coming in den
oh one more question what postion did you play i surpose you are a blue nose fan Den being you was local

Hi Lyn I remember the corner of Cardigan St and Belmont Row but I don,t remember a pub on that corner the buildings were pretty old so maybe the building had another use in my era. Dek

Dennis, thanks for those 2 pics. The first one mentions a "Pool Hall"!!!!! It was a snooker hall, I should know because it was a regular haunt at dinner times when a few of us went there when we were attending Bordesley Green Tech School. Always used to spend my dinner money on a warm fresh loaf from the bakers and take it to the chippy to have it filled with chips.

Astonian the Black Horse was indeed on the corner of Woodcock St in fact it,s still in use.The pub opposite the Co-op Dairy in Vauxhall Rd was The Globe on the corner of Barrack St. Dek

I cannot remember a Victoria Inn on Cardigan St, I believe there was a Grand Junction PH at one time, and I remember the Railway at the bottom of the road, but that was on Curzon St in reality a good venue for bands so I'm told but not my type of music. What exactly was you looking for and more to the point when was it?

You wouldn't have known it, as it seems to have disappeared between 1921 and 1933. It was at no 87 and was the last building at the north end on the eastern side of the street. I'm pretty sure it is the marked building below

There you are then, as I said I didn't remember it and no matter what my wife says I wasn't around in 1921 or 1933 if it comes to that.:)

I am looking for 2 pubs/Inns on Cardigan Street. No.
39 I was told was 'The Junction' is this the same place as mentioned the 'Grand Junction'.
Also No 74 Cardigan Street, may have been a lodging house?
 
No 39 was listed as the Grand Junction in 1900. No 74 was not listed in Kellys that year. When are you thinking of?

About the same time 1900.

Another pub was The Bell , Phillips Rd/Street, in 1909. My husbands Great Grandfather was the Landlord.

Thanks for that at least I have the full name for one establishment.
 
In the 1910 Kellys ,the information for which would probably have been collected late 1909 to early 1910 was at 8 Phillips St (off High St), and the landlord listed was Sydney Francis
It is shown on the c 1910 map in red

In my 1908 Kelly's......the Landlord at the Grand Junction was John Cameron.....who was also living at number 74 Cardigan Street....is this any help ....
