hi folks to start the year off i have been going through some of the bits and bobs that are in my possession ..one of the things are 2 letters from the ministry of labour and national service office..they were sent to a company called fellows and darby of slanley st birmingham informing them that mr terry who works for them has been called up for the home guards...mr terrys address is 182 great francis st ashted..although they may only seem scraps of paper to some i am a great believer that such things should be with any surviving family should they want them..so maybe we could do a bit of research to try and trace any family and give them the chance to have them...better still if any of mr terrys family is a member of this forum please get in touch

There is an Arthur Terry on the 1911 census in Aston b1886 Bham who is listed as a Brass Worker. He was single and the son of William Henry and Mary Jane.

He may have been in the Welsh Fusiliers and died in WWI 16 Sep 1916, buried Belgium.

I think his service records may have survived.

just had another look at one of the letters and on the reply space it says 44 wellington road..no idea what that means unless he moved there..

Speculation only.

On the 1950 ER there is an Arthur Terry listed at 12 Loxton St with wife Elsie (nee Hassall) and in laws. They married in 1947 and he was listed as Arthur J Terry. Elsie was b1925 so a similar age.

Wouldn't he have been called up to fight?
