Limberlost Club in Handsworth

Hi does anyone remember this club around 1940s?

I am told my grand father Fred Reeves worked there after retiring from the Lucas factory. His full name was Thomas Alfred Reeves but known as Fred, he died in 1950 so it was around 1940s.

Any information would be lovely.

I know the Limberlost - in Butler's Lane, Handsworth Wood (not Handsworth). My parents were members in the 1970's. It was a private club which closed either early 2011 or 2012. I think it started in a wooden building which, when land adjacent was sold, was replaced by a brick structure, and that's the one I remember. The building was sold, but I don't know if it was demolished or if it was for another use. My husband's two old school friends were still members when it closed.

Hi Shortie thank you for that information. My Uncle said that grand dad ran it but it must have been in the 1940s, he remarried and his wife was Lily Beatrice Shaw, I don't know anything about her but wonder if she worked there too. chrisy

Hi Chrissy, I can't help you there I am afraid. My husband has just reminded me that we were also members there, that's obviously why I can remember what it looked like inside, but I don't think we went more than a dozen times all told. We live 23 miles away, a long drive for a drink, don't you think?? I doubt whether there are any records of this club in existence - such a small place, not like a working man's club, a very small room with a bar. Nicely furnished though, I have to say, but more like a living room than a club, in a way.
