hi all... ive just read that the dj les ross is to hang up his headphones on the 27th of this month after nearly 26 year on brmb radio...les is a triple sony award winner and he was also awarded the mbe....not bad for a guy who started out doing 5 nights a week at spring hill rollar rink.... and thats how i shall remember him...HAPPY RETIREMENT LES...AND THANKS....

astoness.

Happy Retirement Les Ross, please don`t join Micheal Parkinson and all the other celebs on the advert gravy train but keep in touch, cheers Len.

i used to see him at the roller rink. hes got the amazing talent of being able to make everything amusing and interesting and seems to be able to make it up as he goes along! i love listening to him on radio wm and will miss him a lot.

Call me a Pedant but Les is currently with BBC Radio WM and was previously with SAGA. Yes I do know that he was with BRMB before that.

Llyn he's been on radio WM for a couple of years doing the afternoon show. He has had his 3 hour show cut to two as Ed Doolan too to make way for Joanne Malin. Not keen on her show as all she taks about is how many shoes she has and cosmetic surgery most of the time. Thought these might be of interest. Jean.

bernie...dont worry i dont mind being pulled up for yet another senior moment....lol...yes quite right he is at the moment with radio wm..but will be remembered most for his unrivalled 26 year stint with brmb.....

shera...totally agree with you...hes a lovely person....

Oh forgot to mention he did a stint working at Witton Cemetery and talks fondly of his time there. Jean.

hi jean..thanks for the pics...cosmetic surgery and shoes..??? dont think i will bother.....

lyn

Honestly Lyn she was much better on TV. Pete turns her off till Ed's spot comes on. Not that I want to listen even though I am a woman. I sent Les these and some other photo's I found amongst my bits and bobs. Jean.

jean i am sure he will love to receive them...theres a nice pic of him in the evening mail taken in 1965 when he won dj of the year beating johnnie walker....

lyn

Lyn I sent them last year when we covered a special day for the Taylor Memorial Hospice. It is called by another name now. His father passed away there a few years ago and Les took particular interest in the fund raising side. Have exchanged a few e.mails with him on this subject. He was going to join the forum at one stage. He was born close to where you live wasn't he?. Jean.

do you know jean i dont know where he was born...i do know that tom ross was born at new john st west.....

Every time WM makes a change to it's schedule they mess up the best presenters and now we loose Les Ross who stated that he disliked the afternoon shows. Dont the management ever listen to their listeners or presenters. They made the most of Les coming to the station a few years ago, I've stopped listening since the last changeover.

apparently les ross was born and brought up in handsworth.

did anyone listen to his interview with hardeep singh kohli? it put me right off hardeep as he doesnt appear to have any sense of humour in the interview.

i agree the changes at wm have spoilt the programme altogether. i still havent got over them getting rid of malcolm boydens show. it was hilarious.

Chris I am glad someone else spotted that. It was b....y hard work interviewing him and I was surprised he came across like he did. Jean.

Lyn it's by where your road is but I can't think at the moment. It runs at the back of Kingsthorne school. Jean.

the interview is on the internet if anyone wants to listen to it. just google les ross and look for the interview with hardeep singh kohli. he just didnt get les ross` sense of humour at all

i listened to les ross every morning on brmb when i was getting the kids ready for school, he kept us up to date with what was going on in brum. i loved his sense of humour. have a good retirement les x

Maybe he lived in Kingstanding when he was a little older. I'm sure he said Harringay road. Will e.mail him tomorrow or Thursday as we will be out eating Wednesday and may not be back in time. He always goes on about his days at King Edwards Aston and is a stickler for grammar. Jean.

ok jean...will you please pass on my best wishes...and tell him his days at the rollar rink are remembered with great fondness....

cheers

lyn

Will do Lyn. He used to DJ the Ansells opening nights after the pubs had been re-furbed. Great nights all free just to give the staff a practice before their opening evening with public and he's done a few xmas parties too. He's quite short isn't he. More likely to be Thursday but if I can I will do it in the morning. Jean.

yes jean..hes not very tall is he....i remember years ago the little ditty on the radio was...WHO IS THE BOSS?? LES ROSS...

LYN

Les is a big train enthusiast and even had an engine named after him a few years ago, happy retirement Les, you will be hard to replace.

thanks for those dave...they are great...les certainly has been a great servant of the airwaves....

lyn

The locomotive 'Les Ross' is now privately owned and restored, and is the first electric loco to be granted 'main line' running status, so it'll be around for a while yet. Here's Les Ross standing beside 'Les Ross'!

rubbish presenters Phil Upton followed by joanne malin what a pair never listen now you will be missed les
