Lee Bridge Avenue Ladywood

master brummie
Hi, can any member with knowledge of roads in Ladywood help please. My grandfather lived in 12 Leabridge Avenue, Northbrook Street from 1915 until he joined the army in 1932 aged 17. My question is, is it Leabridge Avenue or Leabrook Avenue? Plus when did this road go because i can only find recent maps with Northbrook Street and no Leabridge or Leabrook coming off it. Bit of an odd address isn`t it. Maybe it made way for the hospital nearby.

Little snip of 1890 mapping attached which shows No.12......Bill

Cannot find any Leabridge or Leabrook avenue in the 1921 Kellys or on the electoral rolls for Birmingham. Am not sure what thta address means. It may be just 12 Northbrook St , as Malvernian thinks, but not clear as to the Leabridge/Brook bit coms in. Incidentally Malvernian , the map is c1955, not 1890. If I have somewhere posted it as 1890 by accident, I apologise.

Sorry - it is c1955 mapping - I misread the date - but the side-road/avenue layout is similar on 1918 1:2500 mapping, but un-named.

Malvernian and mikejee, thank you, thank you, thank you. Now i know the road is Lee Bridge Avenue and not Leabridge or Leabrook and its good to see where it was too. It was a strange address was`nt it. Looking at Google streetwalk i can see a newish estate built on that area now.
