may i take this opportunetity to wish you a very happy new year for 2012 ; firstly
and secondondly ; lee bank rd was a very nice rd to live in ; compared to most ends od the main belgrave rd when i left school i got a job with
a builders merchants by the name of divis .s of wreathan rd just off the bristol st and yards down the rd rom the picture house it was th Cinamapone
it was an ol chap next door whom was mr divis roofer for his company by the name of albert hwkes a very nice guy whom was mrried to a lady alled vera
on te day of leaving school he aked me if i would like a job as a slaters mate ;which would mean scamping up ladders to the roof tops and carrying slates across the roof for him so i said yes he use to take me on the back of his motor bike and bring me back as we lived next door to each other
butback on trac mr ivis in is early days gt the contract for the birmingham city housing dept which covered that side of the city from one en of camp hill and the surrounding area including st lukes rd and begrave rd up to lee bank rd repapeiring the outer house brewers and main roof houses
they was very nice house we would start off bygetting our breakast at a cafe at 7 30 in the morningat the bottom of sun street west next to bristol street end and work up when they knocked down the old houses and redelveloped lee bank that was the end of the area ; best wishes alan astonian
 
Astonian That was very interesting to read you have such a wide knowledge of life around the older ends of Birmingham. I wish I had your memory.

thank you for those kinds words my memory of grwing up and experience of living in birmingham was very wide indeed
and i have always tryed and kept my memories healthy ;from a very early age in my life i had experiences from the day i was born ;

Thank's for this picture, anymore of lee bank? I was born in ladywood (ledsam st.) and lived in lee bank rd. till the early 60's before going to hockley. Where I lived was just up the hill from there.(Lee bank rd )

I am more than sure that if you put Lee Bank & Ledsam Street into the search box you will find plenty of posts and photos of both these streets. In the meantime here are a couple of Ledsam Street.

I hope you do not mind me asking the question but did you or relatives lived in Springfield street just down the road from ledsam street
As there was a Gill family living in Springfield street next to a Blewitt Family in that street in the 1950 ,s up until 1956
Sorry if you think I am imposing on personal matter as an old friend of mine whom I have tracked down through this forum because there is another member
Of this forum whom is a relative to my long lost friend put us in touch with each other from them days when we knew this Gill Family
And we spoke of them to them about them between our selves best wishes Astonian,,,,,,,
 
No mate I don't think you are imposing om me at all, However I cannot help you with ledsam st. I born in ledsam st., Then went to lee bank till the 60's
 
Chris what number did you live at on Lee Bank Rd? Perhaps we might be able to find a photo of it between us, especially if it was street fronting and not a back house.

Astonian I've just come across this post I lived at 1/63 Springfield St we lived there till about 1955, where did you live ?
 
Hi Williamtree i lived around the corner next to the chimney sweep house if you walked around the corneryou should recall the big wall with the gates where he done the picture shows for us kids i beleive there was a patrica a young girl at the time or it could have been diane whom used to hang around with us bleitts was the neibour
 
Was Lee Bank Road absorbed by Lee Bank Middleway ? I think the Streetview image is probably where the old photo was taken. Source : British Newspaper Archive
