Lazarica Church, Bournville

Yes it's a remarkable place - The Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Prince Lazar, known locally as Lazarica. It's quietly located in Griffins Brook Lane in Bournville and was built for post-WWII Yugoslav political refugees with support from the Cadbury family, Sir Alfred Owen, and exiled Prince Tomislav of Yugoslavia.
The architect was Serbian Dr Dragomir Tadić who worked collaboratively with S. J. Clewer, the chief architect of Bournville Village Trust. The foundation was laid in 1965 and it was consecrated in 1968. It is dedicated to the Holy Prince Lazar of Kosovo, whose relics lie in the church foundations.

From a visitors point of view one of the most striking sights is the al-secco frescoes which were painted directly onto wet plaster by Dušan Mihajlović :

Yes - years ago when we visited Russia the church frescoes were stunning and this church, admittedly smaller scale, reminds me of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood in St Petersberg where the frescoes are astonishing.
