Did Charles II really stay at the Kingstanding pub ? The pub was very much in the style of nearby Perry Hall, Aston Hall etc, so presumably it was old enough. Or was the pub in the photo below a later version ? Viv.02FC886E-627E-4AE0-B18A-CC9865F0F973.jpeg

king charles 11 died in 1685 i think so the pub in that photo would have had to have been built before then..i have never been certain if this was the original pub..quite possibly yes as i cant say as i have read anything about one being there before...would be good to pin it down though viv and of course the pub there now has recently caught fire

yes mike i realise that what i dont know for certain is was vivs photo of the kingstanding pub the first one to be built so therefore the one that king charles 11 is said to have stayed in

The Kingstanding as I remember it was probably built in the 1920s as the Kingstanding estate developed, much too modern to be of the King Charles era, if he did stay at a pub in the area I'd say it might have been on the same site and demolished before the one pictured was built.
The Kingstanding and the Hare and Hounds buildings were very similar in construction.

I think the story is just a story. There is certainly no pub on that site in 1914 (see previous map) and the only nearby pubs in the area seem to be the Hare and hounds to the south and the Patson and Clerk to the north
 
think i will leave this one for now as wiki says it was king charles 1 not 2nd and that he stayed at aston hall not the kingstanding pub...i know we cant rely on info from wiki but there is not definitive proof as yet but i would love to know when the pub in vivs photo was built..
 
I've just had a thought, there used to be a King Charles pub along the Kings Road at the Finchley Road junction...….when I were a lad. :)
 
That was also post 1914 Eric. Finchley road did not exist in 1914, and position of where the King Charles would later be is where the red pointer is on the 1914 map
