I lived in Acacia Avenue in the early 50's to the late 60's, I would like to know what year the Estate was built? Thanks, Mark

It was being built in March 1953, but don’t know when exactly the estate was completed. Birmingham City Council paid for building but it came within Meriden Rural District Council. Viv.

Thank you Viv, I lived there with my parents we were there for the Coronation of our Queen at 3 years old. While I have some attention, does anyone have some pics of the Acacia Avenue Coronation street party? Left the Estate when I joined the Royal Marines in September 1966, then my family moved back to Canada in 1967. I stayed in the Marines for 14 years and then went to Canada and completed 31 years in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. What a journey from Kingshurst. lol

This Guide Board was put up in 1955. Can understand the need for maps like these. I remember going to Castle Vale and it was a pain to find your way around a new estate. Viv.

I lived in Kingshurst, Overgreen drive, in 1967 and although the property was owned by Birmingham council I remember our dustbins collected by Meriden council in maroon coloured dust wagons.
To tax our car we had to go to Warwick.

The modern residential area of Kingshurst was built in the 1950s as an overspill housing estate for Birmingham City Council, with construction continuing into the 1960s. The name comes from the historic Kingshurst Hall, which was a large building first built between the late 13th and 14th centuries, then rebuilt between 1700 and 1720, and finally demolished in 1962.
