Viv I think the lower pic is later than the 60's Wher the first tree on the corner is in the 60's The Hungry Man Pub/hotel used to be next to that coming toward the camera was that part of the Hall of memory that's been moved to the Garden of Rest by St Thaomas scool Granville Street
Adding to post #2, the photo is dated 1928 and attributed to J W Steele. (Source: Library of Birmingham). It's looking towards Broad Street, a totally unrecognisable view today.

It certainly is different Viv from the days I was a kid, I see the Bingley Hotel Having work done with the scaffold outside in pic 1
