My maternal Grandmother has reached the wonderful age of 102 and has one wish that she hopes will be granted before she leaves us at some point in the hopefully distant future. She would dearly love to meet the daughter of her much loved sister Emily Peacock (nee Gilbert) who unfortunately passed away in 1931 at the tender age of 23 whilst giving birth to a beautiful baby daughter called Joyce on October 7th 1931.

I believe after conversations I had with my Grandmother’s late brother Alf Gilbert who passed away 2 years ago that Joyce was adopted and I sincerely hope that she is still living happily and finds herself in good health.

After some considerable investigation on the internet I think Joyce may have married in 1955 and taken the married name of Harper. This is the reason I have taken the step of posting here in the hope that I might find my Grandmother’s niece.

I would like to stress once that I mean no harm to anyone, all I would like to do is make one last wish come true for a Grandmother that I adore.

Welcome to the site sdwall.
Have you tried viewing the Electoral rolls on the 6th floor of the Birmingham Library?
I found names and addresses of reallies there in June this year (2007), while on a visit to the UK.

Electoral Roll

I've tried asking on Ed Doolan's show unfortunately without success. Joyce would surely only be on the electoral roll as Joyce Harper if she still has the married name of Harper and has not married again and also still lives in Birmingham?

Yes you right about Joyce's name, however it could be a place to start if you have had no luck elsewhere.
I wrote to five people I found with a name I was looking for, and came up with four replies and they were all related to me.
So it's just a suggestion that could well pay off as it did with me.

Don't want to raise your hopes but I have Harpers in my family. My g grandfather was called John Harper and his wife was Elizabeth.

Coincidently my g grandmother Elizabeth had a very good friend called ?Kath Gilbert (who I am sure was a relative of hers - but haven't found a link yet ) as I have only recently started researching this line).

Do you have any adresses where Harpers/Gilberts may have lived.

Fay

Harpers & Gilberts

The Gilberts lived in Winson Green (Peel Street i think). My grandmother was the eldest born in 1905. Her siblings were Florence, Emily was born in 1908 (Joyce Harper's mother who died giving birth to her in 1931) (married name Peacock), Albert (nicknamed Mick), Alfred born in 1920 & Jack.

1891 and 1901 census for Gilberts

Fay,

I have a couple of jpeg files of the above census files with Gilberts if you let me have your email address I will send them.
