Jowett Javelin

I had two, a very nice light green one, NPD 224 which is sadly no longer on the DVLC computer, and a riffy blue & cream one which I sold for spares when it failed an MOT. Nice cars, and as I like column gearchanges kept them on until I needed

When I lived in Lozells back in the sixties, I can remember seeing one of these parked up somewhere near Carpenters road/Lozells road. I loved its streamlined appearance, but knew nothing about the brand then, nor of its history. When I moved to Suffolk about fifteen years ago, I learned from my next door neighbour, that he’d served his apprenticeship with Jowett in the early fifties. When the company was wound up, the plant was taken over by International Harvester and he continued with them until his retirement.

Jowett also made a small van, and a sports car called the Jupiter.
