The Chinn article mentions that Carl Chinn hopes that links are established between Birmingham and both Sturge Town and the Parish of St Ann in Jamaica. Especially since the Olympic Jamaican team will be based here next year.

The statue of Joseph Sturge has been moved many times to make way for traffic schemes. It once stood in a small park and, during WWII was encased in brick to protect it from wartime damage. The photograph of the bricked-up statue was taken in October 1940 by a refugee, Mr Schmutnig, who was apparently prohibited from taking pictures and so required the company of a Mr Ashmore. It was given as a gift to the Misses Amy, Millicent and Evelyn Sturge, Birmingham residents.
