Does any-one remember Jonah the whale, supposedly the biggest whale ever caught:D it was preserved in a sort of black tar and was taken around for people to view, i know it came to Birmingham but i cannot remember where. My uncle lifted me up onto the platform so that i was standing almost inside it's mouth, strange but i can still see the inside of it's mouth....:)...Cat

Naughty whale

I researched this whale today, apparently it was a catch penny it was called Jonah because it had supposedly swallowed a whaler (James Bartley) and when the whale was caught a few hours later and was opened up James was inside unconscious but alive.
In fact the whale had run aground at Great Yarmouth it was then put on show for a couple of days then disemboweled and the skin stretched over a wooden frame and then taken around the country as an exhibit.

A tall tale, those were the days.......Cat:)

Cat it was outside by where the Greyhound Track was Near where that shopping centre was built. I went to see it and did it stink:steamingpile::steamingpile:

The dog track.

:grin2: I remember the dog track. My uncle Fred used to keep pigs and Prince the pony on the Aldridge road. Remember the grass in the middle. We used to go and cut it and store it for hay winter feed. Good old days. We would put him in front of the cart and go round collecting food out of the pig bins to make swill. Did that stink. :steamingpile: TTFN. Jean.
