I am reasearching my famiy history and i have come to a part where i cannot find anymore information. My great, great, great grandfather was Edwin Johnson, born 1839-1840 in Rowley Regis and his father was listed as William Johnson, occupation- Dealer. I cannot find anything on Edwin Johnson. If anyone has information i would be so grateful to hear from you.

Thank you but i have already purchased a copy of this birth record as i thought it was the right one, however the father is not listed as William? which is what is stated on his marriage record. As i said i am having trouble finding him unless it was not his father on the marriage certificate?

Looking at Family Search, there is an Edwin Johnson born to a Phoebe Johnson christened in September 1840. This ties in with a family living in New Street Rowley Regis in 1841 census where she and Edwin are living with her father Benjamin. Will see if I can find her in any further census.

Thank you so much for looking that up for me. I have a few Phoebe's in my family tree which might be where their names came from. Any other information would be very gratefully recieved.

Phoebe Johnson married Henry Barber and they are in Rowley Regis 1851 with Edwin now called Barber and his siblings
William 8,Mary 5,Henry 1.

I am not sure that this is the correct Edwin as Johnson is my family name and his father was listed as William Johnson on his marriage certificate in 1870. If he was Barber then his wife would of been Barber as well? Thanks for the information though.

Could this be the family.
William Johnson 52 years
Mary 45
Edwin aged 10
John aged 7
Born Heathfield Stafordshire and he was a Farmer with staff according to 1851 census.

I am not sure whether or not that is correct as it stated in an 11 census on family search that he was born in Rowley Regis. His wife was Mary Johnson (nee Boswell). I have their marriage certificate.

I've found him in the 1871 census living in Rowley Regis with Mary. He says he is 29 and that his wife is 21 but I have found with my relies they lied about their ages all the time, but no luck yet on his Dad. He was born in Rowley Regis and she was born in Oldbury. Will try later

Found William Johnson and Phebe Lockley marriage on 10/02/1840 in Sedgley which ties in with the christening posted earlier.

That sounds like it could be it. Thank you everyone so much for all your help. If anyone finds a birth record for Edwin Johnson i would be grateful to know.

This really is a hard one.. Sorry I cannot help anymore, but would be interested if you do come across it, so please let us know I've got an idea that if you ask for the fathers name as well GRO won't charge you if it is another name, but I may have that wrong. Perhaps someone else can help there.
Lynda:)

I really appreciate all your help and i will certainly let you know. It think we might be along the right lines with what i have found so far. I will keep you posted.

Hi Loulou. I had a look at the 1841 census and I think that the son John aged 30 could be William, he wouldn't be the first man to be called differently than we expect. John or Johnny being a diminuative for Johnson. So that Benjamin is Edwins grandfather. A William Johnson was Christened in Rowley Regis on 5th February 1813, father Benjamin.
