I am looking for information about Margaret Brand Johnson (born 1909) and her children - Gordon Donald Johnson born 1933. Killed in bombing raid at 414 Victoria Road in Aston on 9 April 1941

- John Frederick Johnson born 1938.

Margaret's siblings were Charles Thomas Johnson born 1900 Aston
Roland Brand Johnson born 1903 Aston.

Any information or sources would be very much appreciated.

Charles b 1900 may be the one in this family in the 1901 census, at 1 back of 163 Cromwell Street. No guarantees though.

John Frederick Johnson's birth registered 4th quarter 1938, Birmingham, volume 6d page 196. Mother's maiden name Johnson.

Margaret Brand Johnson Birth registered 3rd quarter 1909, Aston, volume 6d page 286

In the 1939 electoral roll, 414 Victoria Road Aston is occupied by Roland Gardner Kidd, Thomas Brand Kidd, and Anne Steedman Johnson

My mothers family were Johnsons from Aston, father born George Alfred Johnson in 1881. I have never been able discover if he had any brothers or sisters He was given on his marriage certificate as a tram conducter of 52 Carpenter Road but later and until his death in 1961 he had a sweet shop at 190, High Street Aston. I realise Johnson is a common name but is there a possible connection?

Hi George, I wonder if your Johnson's may have some connection with mine - it's a bit of a long shot but I'm stuck.
My grandfather was Harry Johnson born 1888 - I know his mother was a widow by 1901 - she was Kezia. On Harry's birth certificate no father is listed but on his marriage certificate it's Edward (deceased) a Hawker. At the FRC whenI queried this they said maybe he made it up (I'd have chosen a better occupation than hawker). At the time of Harry's birth they lived at Miles St Bordsley and in 1901 at 10 Court Greenaway St. Aston. Kezia had three daughters Elizabeth age 14, Florence age 13, Kate age 7 in 1888. Sadly, Harry died in 1917 age 29 and he also was a Tram conductor. He was taken by the red berets and 'JOINED' the army although he was in very bad health - they did an operation and he died leaving my g/mother with two daughters and pregnant with twins.
I hope you can help.

Hi,
Don't know if there is a link, but my grandfather Frederick Johnson b. 1870, also died in the same bombing raid. The death cert. stated body found 10/04/1941 at Laugley Road, Small Heath. I know that he had 2 brothers. Charles b. 1883 and Philip b 1872.

There Father was Alfred Johnson, he also had 2 brothers. the family arrive in Birmingham in the 1820 and worked in the Gun triangle of Birmingham, most of the living in the aston area.

I look forward to your reply

Hi Junie

Thank you for your post. Yes, I did know they were mentioned and have the details. Thank you for being kind enough to suggest it though.

Hi Sheri,

I, too, am researching Johnsons, particularly the children of Clement Augustus Johnson (who also calls himself Clement Douglas Johnson). Clement was born in 1862, married Helen Maud Edmonds in 1879 and by 1901 they had Blanche Rosa, 14, Christopher Eugene, 3, Douglas Clement, 19, Helen Victoria, 17, Flora Lilian, 10, Frederick E, 1, William Horace, 9.
I know there were more children born after 1901 and, according to the 1911 census only Douglas is left at home. By then they had had 15 children but 5 had died. Helen was married in 1908 to Thomas Nash.
I am trying to find where Clement's children went after 1901 and suspect that they were 'home children' sent to Canada, as the family folklore is that there were children taken into care. Also, there were said to be 3 sets of twins born to this couple and I haven't found any.
That's why your post interested me. Are there any other twins in your family? These would have been the fraternal kind which tend to run in the mother's line.
They all came from the Small Heath/Bordesley area of Birmingham (which then came under Aston).

If anyone else can help, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Maggie

Hi Maggie, Thank you for your query. I don't think there is a connection as my g/f was the only boy - my g/m had two sets of twins - one born in 1906 not Harry's as he would have not much more that a boy (she was a little older) and my uncle and aunt b. Oct 1917 after Harry's death.
As I am so unsure as to Harry's father - on his wedding cert. 1911 it says Edward deceased - but if I've got the right Johnson, Kezia was married to Henry Johnson - on Harry's b/cert, there is no father. It's a mystery to me.
If you come across anything I would be very grateful.
Sheri

Maggie, I should have said that Kezia was a widow by 1901 - I thi nk if Henry is her husband he died before Harry was born.
Sheri

Hi Sheri,

I can see why you have problems with this one. I have been looking on Ancestry and I am amazed how many Kezia Johnsons there are on there. It must have been a popular name at the time.
All the very best with your research. If I can help at all do let me know.

Maggie
