johnson mystery - help please

sheri

master brummie
In February 1911 Harry Johnson married Gertrude Sophia Nabbs - my grandparents - on the certifiacate his father is down as Edward johnson (deceased) Hawker.
On Harry's birth certificate - born February 1888 - his mother is Kezia Johnson but no father given? If I have the right birth his mother was a widow but I think she was married to a Henry or William Henry Johnson who died while she was pregnant with Harry (she has 3 daughters).
I asked about this at the Family Rec ords Centre (before it closed) and the man I spoke to said he probably made up the name on his marriage certificate - which seems a b it odd to me - why not use his mother's husbabd's name??
This may be one of those mysteries that will never be solved but worth asking about.
Harry died in 1917 age 29 in Queens Hospital - a discharged soldier but he never went to war as too ill.
I hope someone can help.
With thanks
Sheri

the mother kezia sutton married william henry johnson in 1875

in 1881 they are living in arthur st. bham and also living with them was
george sutton, kezia suttons brother.

maybe the son even forgot his fathers name as his father had died before he was born. in 1881 the father is a cabinet brass founder but maybe he was ill and became a hawker to make a living until he died. as you say you may never find the truth on that one :(

Hi Shera, Thank you for your help once again - I hadn't thought that Henry could have changed his occupation - it's logical as a brass founder must have been a filthy job!! I thought George Sutton was Kezia's father? Not that it matters. So I think I must put this one to bed now as I dont think I can go any further with this branch.
Cheers,
Sheri

sorry sheri, yes george was the father of kezia. i just read it wrong on the census.:boohoo: :)
