hi all
in my family tree john hayes was born 1854 Birmingham sometimes he used biggs as his surname we don't know why he married sarah groom
I would like to know what his father surname used

hi kc it could have been that johns father died and his mother re married and so his name went down as that of his stepfathers in this case biggs..i have seen this happen a few times including my own family..

From previous posts, is this John Hayes/Biggs an entertainer/showman in Stourbridge? Could one be his stage name?

Did he list his father on his marriage certificate?

Found this article in Birmingham Daily Post Tuesday Aug 14th 1900. Your relative?

hi Janice
thank you for that interesting in 1925 my grand-dad worked on a fair ground in dudley

I think I put this elsewhere on here but in 1871 John Hayes was in a caravan on the Hagley Road and also there in another caravan were James and Caroline Hayes - I assume relatives?

hi Janice
t would be nice to find out where about the land was so I could also james and caroline wills
kind regards

Do you know when James and Caroline died? The problem is you don't know what name the wills are under. Did you know you can search here for wills? https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#calendar I am attaching map of where Kate's Hill was although I don't know the exact plot of land referred to. The second image is roughly the same area on Google Earth.

It is really odd - 1871 census Hayes, marries in 1873 as Biggs, 1881 Biggs, 1891 Hayes, 1901 Hayes, in 1911 Sarah is a widow - the form says Biggs but the cover page says Mrs Hayes!!
