jelf henry charles

Astonian

gone but not forgotten
hi guys
Sorry to be a pain but its part of m researching the jelf family and i beleive he was the oldest brother of the jelf family
which as only just come to my attention and thats down to pauline and ray whom have recently sent a picture upon our forum
of the jelfs first tea rooms in aston cross on the corner of rocky lane which as sparked me off as i recall being told by my mother
that henry was the main man to set up these bussiness of tea rooms and which it was aston cross then apparently he fell ill so he sold it to arther jelf henry was williams or george william first son
whom apparently died and later burried in witton cemetry
in 1958 but also i have picked upon his i have an address for him as being listed at 169 tatbank rd oldbury worcestershire
and i was wondering whether or not is it possible for some one
if they can or should i say can spare there valuable time
to tell me if he had a wife and family and sibling living with him
if possible so i could try and track them down and see if any of his gand children might be around so i could comunicate with them
also if i recall not so long back a couple of months i thought one of our members had access to the probate section where they could check for our members for them on there behalf which if its correct i would dearly love to know about his probate ; he died january 1958 and his probate was the 11 of march around the same time my father died but my father died 30 of march 1958
i know its a tall order to asked but i really love to know about this henry as he was the major player in the jelfs family and bussiness
i also know there was a grand son towilliam or george jelf was also a george whom was henry son
once again i thank you all your valuable time in reading my request best wshes Astonian;

Hi Alan, This is getting tricky!! I'll give you some details that I've found on Ancestry but I think I've confused myself!
Parents for the Oldbury one are probably Walter and Jane, for 1911 Census they have children Emily Frank Joseph Samuel and Ada, at (69?) Tat Bank Rd.
Parents for the Aston one are Mary Ann and George on 1901 Census.
Marriage for 1919 Beatrice Pendrey. Aston.
Date of death for 1959 was 30 Jan. birth "about" 1891.
Date of death for 1958 was 27 Jan. birth "about"1890.

There are so many similarities, maybe our Members have other ideas!!
I hope it helps in some way though,
rosie.

HI ROSIE ;
WHat can i say but yes a big thank you on this the starring ones are definately mary ann jelf and george and regarding the other one in tat bank rd i have a sneakie feeling they are there relatives the other side because i know there was a ada whom came with ivy jelf to my mothers father whomwas my grand father when he died whom was ernest jelf at victoria rd and his business was at the 235 and 237 park lane and died in 1969 mom said she was prety sure it was ada but she could not be certain because she had not seen her in years and there was a frank whom lived bretonfordon years later so i can only presume of them being relies to our half of the jelf chain and i have it written down some where within my excisting record the name of beatrice pendry
i have reason to believe may have been burried in sutton some where around there but there was an under taker up gravely hil erdington whom was arpound in those days of 1800s stated to us he as burried all the jelfs family going back generations to those dates up to 1970
so we had our mother joyce ivy beatrice follow in there foot steps i beleive henry was burried in st lenords or elgins and the son of george senior is burried in witton cemetry many thanks rosie great work ;great help best wishes Alan ; Astonian

Hi Alan, I hope you are feeling better.
I'm sorry I don't know about sending for Wills, my Mom sent for some once, but she died some years ago.
I'm hoping another Member might be able to help. I wonder if the New Library staff might know?
rosie.

Hi Rosie
Just like to asked you or any member of this forum have the old orininal staff move from the old library to the new one or are they a complete new staff
As a couple of years as passed since I was there I have not yet been able to make a visit to the new one yet
Because when I used to go there regular there was an older gentleman and a young chap used to give me good information and informed me well
And actually gave me some time with me the older chap ha a bit of a squint but he certainly spent time and gave me some good insight on one part of the family called banning which was connected to a part of history of associated to one of my family tree in the 1800
I have not tracked down where to find the will of grand mother for 1953 also of a john Hughes whom went to Ireland at the age of three born stoke prior worc
Any way Rosie thanks again for the thread you wrote me far back at the moment in time I am not in the best of health l had a scare two weeks ago
My oldest daughter was rushed into hospital today she had high blood pressure with an heart attack was taken to the queens Elisabeth hospital she is thirty eight years old so I will be in brum tomorrow so I may get to bull street if I can find it as they tell me the brum city ain't like I used to know it
Well I will give it a try best wishes Alan astonian

Hi Alan,
So sorry about all your health worries and your daughter too. We have such good hospitals in Birmingham so hopefully she will be well again soon.
I think the younger chap you mentioned is probably the one there now. I lovely lady helped me with with moving the electronic shelves.
I haven't been able to go for a while but I found earlier in the morning is quieter.
Take care of yourself, best wishes,
rosie.

Alan, you cannot get wills any more from Bull Street, it stopped about a year or so ago. I sent for one last year, posted it to Bull Street, and after a month, rang as I had no reply by post. They then told me that you can only get them from Leeds, they send all requests from Bull Street to Leeds and then you have to wait - I think it was about six weeks.

Shortie

Alan, I got my g/g/grandfather's Will by going to the Probate Office in the old Lewis' building, I had to fill in a form with the date of death etc., I had to pay £6 or £7 and they forwarded it on to Leeds, it came back quite quickly 2 weeks I think. The staff were very helpful.

hi guys
many thanks to each and every one for your reply to my quest and for my trying to track down the wills and thank you for the thoughts of my daughter nicola
i will explore all these avenues you have given me best wishes to you all alan; astonian;;

and there was a family gathering siting on the deck chairs sun lounging and in there garden there was a masive and huge fountain in the middle of the lawns
it was a huge one simular to the size of the one that was out side the birmingham museum i was flabber gasted beleive me
arther was the eldest and then henry whom was the main man he had summe lane coffee shp at 47 i think the adrees was along with the bookie office and one bokie at tyburn rd holly lane side ajoing the side and back entrane to the 901 tyburn rd coffee shop there dwelling was called ivydene 901 tyburn rd
in total they had 33 shops of bussiness around birmingham thanks to george william the father and he was head of the birningham metal industrealist trade
he was chairmam of the trade union as well ans set up the welfare of these conferlesing for the union down in wales and he was also involved with the courts
and arther and henry was two special jurriors for certan big main cases
