James Cecilia Amy Help with maiden name

dek carr

gone but not forgotten
My mothers mother died on the 13-10-1927 she had 2 sons and 5 daughters her husbands name was Vincent John James her name was Cecilia Amy James. How would I find her maiden name? I only met my grandfather a few times before he died and he lived at 76 New Street Erdington with his second wife.I would be most grateful for any guidance on how to find her maiden name.Derrick

Re: Help with maiden name

You could try sending for her death certificate, or alternatively a birth certificate for one of her children.

Do you have site of your mothers birth certificate.

There is a possible marriage on Free BMD as follows: June 1896 Birmingham - Vincent John James & Cecelia Amy Darley - Ref 6d 320

Re: Help with maiden name

Re: Help with maiden name

Thanks to everyone for your quick response this is a new field of learning for me could you explain the (ref 6D 320) My mother was the youngest child born I think !917 and as I knew of 2 uncles and 5 aunties she must have had 10 children. I know they were R.C. but so many children. Dek

Re: Help with maiden name

Hi Dek that's the certificate reference number. Needed if you want to send for the marriage certificate

Re: Help with maiden name

I think there was at least 1 more child...Theresa born 1916!
and possibly another who died not long after birth...Archibald in 1913

Re: Help with maiden name

Oh thank you so much Linda that,s my mum Theresa can,t even get her birth date right this could be a very long journey for me, are there names for the other two that died. Dek

Re: Help with maiden name

Sept 1916
Teresa A W James mother's maiden name Darley Aston 6d 1112
And a final possible for you!
Births Dec 1920
Mary A James mother's maiden name Darley Birmingham 6d 414

In 1911 there was:
Edward 12,Cecilia Agnes 10,John Samuel 7,Phyllis Louisa 5,Rose Josephine 3,and Kathleen Mary 6 months.
In 1901 Vincent J James was living at Dugdale Street with wife Cecilia and just 2 children,Edward and Cecilia.

Having had a look at BMD's there are many infant births and deaths with the surname James in the relavant period
and it's nigh on impossible to pinpoint any from this family as there are no mothers maiden names published prior to 1912.

Re: Help with maiden name

Linda once again thank you. Already there appears to be an unknown factor as my mother said she was the youngest child there is a Mary A James born 4 years later could she have died also? All the other uncles and aunts I have met as a child. Dek

Re: Help with maiden name

Hi Dek,in fact,on checking the electoral rolls, she is the daughter of a William James and Veronica Darley who married in June 1915 in Kings Norton

O.K. Linda thanks for your hard work she is no relation. Unless the two Darley mothers were related but I wont go down that road yet. Dek
