Jam factory ladywood

This comes up on Google ai

Historical jam factory
  • Location: Freeth Street, Ladywood, on the canal side.
  • Company: Canning & Wildblood.
  • History: A former jam-making factory that is now of local historical interest and subject of reminiscing by former residents, as seen in this Facebook post.

Hi both
Thanks for replies. We used to live in Beach Street and Freeth Street was at the bottom. Will look up the Facebook page. I think my mother must have worked there pre 1947.

A few snippets about Canning and Wildblod. The business seems to have been sold in the 1950s. Known as the "Purity Works" and "Preserve Works'. In 1917 they were advertising 'Good Wages' - valued war work as well as a major attraction to women supporting their families during WW1.
