Dunno if this is quite the right thread to ask but why don't we see white dog muck any more?

I't because most dogs are fed on dry kibble now, when I give my Doberman fresh bones from the butcher she produces white poo!!

Looking at some photo's taken by the Butlin's photographer in one of the dining rooms there is on the table a bottle of OK brown sauce, forgotten all about that one and wonder if the next to go the same way in the future might be HP !!!

Very droll Jean and m humphreys!! (who used to say that phrase?) Anyway, when I worked for Boots the chemists you wouldn't believe the amount of jars of that stuff we sold. I think it must have made Boots more profit than any other single item. Oh and Ponds Cold Cream was the other staple item. What we ladies will do in the name of beauty!

Now think party time. Think Birds Custard Trifle. Now think a box kit of Birds Custard Trifle. Remember them? All the ingredients to whistle up your own professional trifle. Well I loved them. OK so they were probably pumped full of enumbers, sugar and other unthinkables, but I thought they were delish. You knew it was either Christmas or a birthday with one of those on the table. Viv.

I have to admit I don't use many beauty products. I have always had an oily skin and now I am getting older it is dryer but not massively. I used to use Johnson's Baby Lotion, but now use Simple moisturiser. Perhaps if I bought some of the advertised ones, I might look younger? Couldn't care less really, will stick with what I use now, it does the trick for me. I do use a bit of make up though, without it I am so pale I look like I am dying!

One of the beauty products I miss (apart from 'bones' ! ha ha) is block eyeliner. Can't get it anymore. We used to use it not only as eyeliner, but as a way of drawing extra eyelashes on the lower part of the eye. (I'm talking 1960s here). Made you look like a panda. Viv.

Gorden Moores Toothpaste, Need help with spelling of this one: Was in jar on sweet shop shelf. Rainbow sherbert crystals.Would dip finger in bag.left finger looking yellow stained, It was called something like kalie[ totally wrong spelling

I always thought it was horrible. It was originally developed to use up surplus whey that was left after processing of milk , originally at the Cadbury-Schweppes milk factories. though they probably later bought it in as well. It was the whey plus ,as you say, a lot of chemical flavourings. The whey did provide some (low quality) protein though

I had a leather satchel for grammar school. Now the kids have all different kinds of bags on their backs. Of course originally we would have called these bags knapsacks!!

Duffle bags for swimming gear, remember those? A round plastic lined stiff cotton bag with a plastic trim and drawstring. I had one of a vaguely green colour. Popped that over one shoulder and the leather satchell on the other. No wonder we get back problems later in life. Viv.

Jean were duffle coats a bit itchy? Seem to remember them having quite a rough texture. Don't know what they were made of. I think they must have originally been made for the military. Viv.

Interesting Mike. Didn't know that Duffle bags and Duffle coats were originally made of the same material. Don't think I've ever seen a duffle bag like that. Nice description of the toggle fasteners on the coats as 'walrus teeth'. I remember the coats becoming fashionable in the 1960s.

Another item of outdoor clothing I haven't seen in a very long time is the school gaberdene mac. Think they were made of poplin cotton, were double breasted and had a 2"/3" belt with a square buckle. They came in green, navy blue, grey and brown, depending on the school uniform and we wore them over blazers in the winter. There are now much lighter and easier care coats that kids wear today, so I suppose they've been overtaken by the newer fabrics. I think occasionally you see private school children wearing them. Viv.

I had a Duffle Coat in an off white sort of waterproof material. Great for carrying snowballs onto the bus to throw at the Girls from the girls school that got on at Rose Hill Road.

l had a duffle coat in the 50's with lambs wool lining l just about lived in it in the winter months, it was real warm and l think wind proof too.....Ron bought it for me about 1954 l think, it was grey in colour but did'nt have a hood, bought it to the states with me did'nt get much wear in texas but on trips to colorado it was worth its weight in gold ....l parted with it about ten years ago when l donated it to a charity shop just hope whoever bought it enjoyed it as much as l did.....Brenda

viv.hello, half dark mild, and half manns brown ale.

Hi mw0njm. Thanks, never tried that combo, will give it a go. But will probably have to travel 'north' for it, don't recall seeing mild or Manns down in the south. Must investigate! Viv.

Anyone have a chunky knitted cardigan with black poodles on ? I'll try posting a pic of the Paton's knitting pattern, but afraid it might not work. Not only did I have the cardi I was lucky to have the black poodle soft toy too. It had moveable legs so it would sit flat on its tummy. Viv.
