I remember visiting this pub as a small girl with my grandfather.It was at the back of Inglefield Road,Yardley. Is it still there does anyone know.

Hi Angela
The Iron Horse is indeed still there and still going strong
Trouble is, they've knocked it all into one big room, which has taken away all the atmosphere, another good pub ruined!

By a strange coincidence I found out only yesterday that my cousin's daughter is running the Iron Horse with her partner.:wave:

Hi there

I only went in the Iron Horse once, nearly 50 years ago, with a couple of mates,
having just had a bag of chips, and had a pint of Mild (my only one of the night).
I quickly became so drunk I couldn't stand, - a bit strange as I often in those far
off days had 8 or 10 pints with little effect!

My mates carried me back to one of their houses in Clements Road, quite a distance,
but two hours later I had not sobered up at all, and they supported me to where
I lived in Frederick Road Stechford. I woke up the next morning with the mother
and father of a headache!

50 years on I still wonder if it was the chips, the beer or a combination of the two!

Kind regards

Dave

HI DAVE
Just read your thread this orning on the iron horse i had to smile, when you said fifty years ago ;
i used to drink in there my self with what is now my inlaws when i was courting the miss,s
well on the subject of the state of your head if it was a one and only pint
it would have been the beer, as the gather there was a good hard man running that pub at that time
and he kept his pipes well tuned and cleaned a very good cracking strong pint of beer
not like the other surrounding pubs which i will not bother to mention [which i could but will not
as there bers was complete water ] it was a cracking pub and with its punters as well you
had to get reasonal early to get a seat ; good dominos team ;
when he finaly left it went down the hill for years
and i expect you got your chips from the station ;there chips was rubbish ;
unless you went the flaxley rd one by the atlas as that family served cracking chips , so it would not have been
there chips but i do know him by the station was rubbish
are you sure you did not pop into the atlas bingo after hours for is rubbish beer
i have spent many hours until dusjk in there it was a den
have a nice day ; best wishes astonian ;;

My brother in law still meets up with his mates there,
he and his brother's have drunk there forever,the sale family,i fact my sister worked at the murco,
petrol station down the road that's where they met. Happy day,s dereklcg

HI DEK
many thanks for your replying to the thread i can recall the garage bussiness next to the iron horse pub
from years ago and when they closed down and sold it to the asians whom went under the murco combine
name ; and your sister ; when the asians took over with in weeks they set up another garage up by uncles
pawnshop as well so they was operating two garages at one time in bordesley green
and whilst i am typing this thread ; may i take this opportutity to wish you a belated birthday
and i hope you have a enjoyable one to remember
my inlaws lived in mannor rd at that time all those years ago next to the bakery
have a nice day best wishes Astonian ;;

Just drove past the pub an hour ago the building looks quite modern is this the only pub built on this site or was there an original one if so how long has it been there. Dek

cheers Astonian.nice to here from you.
it used to be a nice area probably still is, my brother told me they have built some low rise flats by the iron horse now?
regards Derek..

good morning dek
any idea where they built thos low rise flats any where close where the allotments used to be
i have not been to that area for many a years now and since i last drank in there
you say your brother as been there from day one ;
he would have known my brother inlaw as he was a great darts and domino player
and he was in the team for years his name was martin ; some called him big martin because of his
size he lived up on mannor rd his dad was named jack ; he was an irish fella ; martin was born
in birmingham , he was also a big drinker he was found murdered afew years ago in his flat at weoley castle long nuke rd never found any one thou for his murder
because martin had money and it was known by th locals and supect the local druggies was responible stated by the police ;
i also had alot of friends furher down pass the garage for years
i would not know the place i suspect now it must have changed, so they don away with the back room
i would have inmagined the old locals have moved away by now
nice to hear fronm you dek ; have a nice day best wishes Astonian ;;;;
would you recall the hicks family or the doyles that went in [ joe doyle ]
