If he is passing himself as a Foster (true or not) then he would have had to say his father was deceased. Not certain he was but his mother is married to another man so has to say

No way that's crazy about the age on the gravestone being wrong. The way this women was talking earlier there was no way it could be an error.I will look but 3 years difference isn't much.
Back then age mattered less - no old age pension to claim.
Even as late as 1969 my Gran's age is wrong - even on her gravestone. She wasn't sure what year she was born.
So it is most likely him. You usually find, if it is recorded, day and month match but year is out.
