Jones, Davies and Williams: What are the origins of Welsh surnames?
Jones, Davies and Williams are popular last names in Wales - but what are their origins?www.bbc.co.uk
The French variant, Theophile, is still popular - there were one or two among my colleagues at the French company I used to work for.Theophilins = friend of God, or loved by God.
Zebedee is/was an old name in the US bought over by German/Dutch immigrants.Magic Roundabout - Zebedee!
I actually know someone who has used it as his DJ name for years, everyone just calls him Zeb now.
Stafford had 11 children, the 'Zebedee' stayed with him. All his children having conventional names as did his siblings and parents.I have some distant relatives who named the first 3 children Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Their next son was Daniel so still biblical related perhaps but after that another 6 children with common names.
And none of the 3 named any of their children after themselves.
