IN OUR GARDENS 2026

Wow that was lucky! Does it mean something, I wonder? What type was it? There have been a lot of tiny blue ones, but not the usual big ones such as tortoiseshell, peacock, etc.
I think it was a peacock but I didn’t want to disturb it by turning my head to look at it.
I’ve always thought butterflies to be symbolic.
The Christmas following the year my Mom passed away my son bought me a charm for my bracelet engraved Mom. It was a lovely gesture and we said how much we all missed her. Just after that I went in the dining room and I couldn’t believe my eyes, there was a butterfly on the windowsill….in December…
I hoped it was mom wishing us Happy Christmas!

We had one a few years ago, found holes which we filled and put citronella around, as they hate that. They are not nice to have in your garden but I suppose the bird feed attracts them. We always feed the birds.
Lemonella I’ll do anything to avoid killing creatures but we had to resort to poison because like you we feed the birds, we back onto fields and it caused us a huge problem. I hated doing it because they’re just trying to survive like any other creature, but they go to such extremes. Mind you the squirrels are getting as bad!!

When we moved in here on 2017 we used to have very small, minute in fact frogs. come into the back garden . Then I noticed after the Lavender had flowered and I was tidying it up , there was a substantial size Frog he/she visited a couple of times more but I have#nt seen either for a couple of years

I dismantled a pergola we used to have just outside the back door . oone of the posts the kept it up fell down rotten at the base. I cut the base of made good and added a 3 part makeshift bracket for the feeders. The feeders are filled with sunflower hearts , another with peanuts and the third normal bird seed , since its been up my son has videoed two woodpecjer a green finch goldfinches blue tits and the usual criminals sparrows and starlings etc / So it proves if you feed them they'll come

I am sure it was your Mom, they are rarely seen in December, that was a beautiful moment for you all. They are very symbolic, along with the Robin. I usually see a robin when I am out on a walk, they hop in front of me to say "hello it's just me looking after you".

I recenty bought a new seed feeder. Took the pigeons a while but one found that if he knocked it some seed fell in the bowl or even on the floor.
I filled it yesterday and by this morning there was only a small amount of seed left but I was delighted to see the small birds coming to it.
So we had Blue Tits, Sparrows, Robins and, to my surprise, Nuthatches. No pic of Blue Tit as camera ran out of battery and phone camera not powerful enough.
They queue up either on the top of the fence or on a nearby tree/shrub.
