Hughes Evelyn Margaret

I did think we could have a look. It says if you have information to let the hospital know.
Nothing to lose by having a search.
i agree jan...only looked quickly for now but no luck so far with the 1911...will keep looking and maybe you could as well and also check the nursing register

I've just checked the nursng register and there are several entries for Evelyn Margaret Hughes but not any which have training at the Children's Hospital.
This is the first that I found so unlikely

looks like evelyns husband william alfred bryant served in ww1 and his records are on ancestry...next step is looking for any trees on ancestry

The Penns Lane address appears to have been her sister's house. She is listed there in 1939 and it's the address given on her husband's (Clement Brookfield) probate.

No children for them.

evelyn was born 11th dec 1889 but on the 39 register it gives her dob as 28th march 1900 which is actually when her birth was registered...just an observation

edit..why is evelyn on 2 39 registers at 2 different addresses...this one gives her correct dob again hubby william but he has a different occuption...i am confused

The second one is not our Evelyn.
Gerald's birth is reg in 1924 with mmn Hinks.
There is a marriage in 1924 in West Brom of William Bryant to Evelyn Hinks.
So we can ignore that one

I have just emailed the Children's Hospital sending a brief explanation of who we are and also a link to this thread.
So we will continue to see if we can trace anyone through her siblings or in laws. Posting on here what we find.
I will let you know if, and when, I get a response.

Very quick response:

Thanks so much for getting back to us and for sharing everything you have found so far do keep us updated and thank you so much for your help.
We don’t have much information ourselves I’m afraid, so any help is appreciated.

Best wishes,
Communications Team

thanks jan...i get the impression from their occupations that the family could well have afforded to have family photographs taken so there could well be some floating around...it appears that evelyns son did not have any children so i think we must drop down now to search her siblings...on the 1891 census her dad thomas is with what i believe to be his second wife christina along with daughters catherine aged 26 and ada aged 24 then we have daughter dorothy aged 5 and evelyn aged 1...

Catherine Winifred Hughes never married and in 1939 is living with Ada at 21 New Road, Meriden. She dies 14 Nov 1949.

Ada Elizabeth Hughes married an older man Arthur Horace Hiorns in 1916 and is widowed in 1920. No children. As mentioned she is living at 21 New Road, Meriden in 1939. She dies 8 May 1951.

The same person - Gordon Joseph Smith, railway clerk - is mentioned on both their probate records.

There doesn't appear to be any obvious kin connection between Catherine and Ada to Gordon Joseph Smith. He was born Nash, the illegitimate son of a Louisa Nash.

Just going to post a few details to what we have already

Birth reg in 1st qtr of 1890 (not unusual for Dec births)

The mmn fits with that for the reg of her elder sister Dorothy born in 1885

1891 census has her with parents Thomas and Christina. Note there are (as Lyn said in post 25) 2 older half sisters.
Address is 38 Stamford Road Handsworth.
