How would you get a Tempory Marker at Warstone Lane

Brummagen_lass

Always Searching
Hi Folks

I have been to visit Warstone Lane and Key Hill Cemeteries on a number of occasions.
I have been to the clean up days and taken hundreds ofphotos of memorial stones, and just wondered around when the sun comes out
I have a great affection for both Cemeteries and thefamilies I have buried in them.
To date I have found 10 relatives in Key Hill, and over 60in Warstone Lane.

It took me ten years to find the resting place of my grandfather, (from just an old photo from the 1930's) only to find there are 3 generations all in the same grave, I was elated to have finally found them.
But I was very disappointed though to find no headstone

I have seen many temporary markers in the Cemetery

So I’m wondering if someone could advise me (and maybe other peeps that would like to know), how do you go about making this happen ?
Has any one any idea how much the markers would cost
Where do you go to get one made
Do you need permission

Do you have to pay any costs to the cemetery etc
Basically how does it work please

Help and advise greatly appreciated
Many many thanks

Hi Brummagen Lass I think Brian would be able to help on this question or contact the "Friends" group. If he is not available you would be better to inquire at Handsworth Cemetery office as they control both cemeteries.

Hi Brum Lass
Long time no see!

Temporary grave markers are about £60. You need to complete a form available from all manned Cemeteries (there are less of them each year! - Quinton & Brandwood now have no office staff on site).
You can purchase the "gold" looking plaques from the cemetery or go to an undertaker or Stonemason - they have alternatives - Proffesional wooden crosses, etc.

Officially - they are only for 2 years - to allow a grave to settle before putting a 'proper' headstone on.

However - Special permission has been sought & granted for Key Hill & Warstone Lane - as they are no longer open for the sale of "New" graves - that Temporary means forever - or until it becomes too shabby and worn out when it will be removed by Council staff on the regular 'checks' - i.e. Never be taken away!

Witton would be 2 years only - but unsure if they actually diary it and check it out after the time is up!

I have a temporary marker in Warstone Lane for my gran and grandad's grave. It's a gold coloured plaque marked with a message of your choice and I applied to Handsworth Cemetery, who got it made up and I sited it (with Brian's help). Looks really nice and only cost about £13.

Is that the right price charlie or a typing error?

No really, Pol. It wasn't very expensive. 'Ang on, I'll see if I can find.......nope, can't find the receipt but Don tells me it was nearer £50. Don't know what I was thinking of!

Must have been thinking of the price of Oxo cubes or something! :unconscious::unconscious:
