How to find out ?

Pewster

knowlegable brummie
I suppose 40 years later is a bit long to be trying to find this out but wondered if anybody could point me in the right direction as to how to do so ?

My Mother died when I was a 9 year old child ( all other relatives long since gone so cant ask them either ) having been ill for a couple of years prior. As a child, I was pretty much kept away from it all. However, I do remember her service was at Yardley Cemetery. What I would like to try and find out ( and I know I should have done this years ago ) was if she was buried or cremated and on what date ? As I know I was 9, this would narrow it down to between May 1973 and May 1974 but I cannot be any more specific. Her name was Margaret Rose Pugh. How do I best go about finding out ?

Thanks

Dave

hi dave..its never to late to find out about our family history a lot of us are still doing it...anyway i have had a look on yardley crems website and as new buriels stopped in 1962 its more than likely that your mom was cremated..my advise would be to have a look at the link below and give them a ring and explain that you are looking for your mom at yardley..i am sure that the staff there will be more than happy to help you...good luck

DAve , your Moms death was registered in September quarter 1973 which means she could have died in any of the 3 months,July/August or September.

That's great, just need to find out when she was cremated, have phoned the cemetery and they have said they will come back to me !

That's good news Dave they may be able to tell you where her ashes are if they were put in the cemetery. I found out where my Dads were in Sutton crem. He died when I was 15 but I never knew where his ashes were.

I know, hopefully they will tell me. Would be nice to visit the book of remembrance, but its not something you really think about when they die when you are so young
