Hi Everyone,

I have a relative in my tree called Richard Baker born c 1874 in Banbury Oxfordshire the family moved to Birmingham and I have been told by someone that got in touch with me that Richard was a artist and he went by the stage name of Dick Malone, could anyone please advise best way to research this as I am not brilliant on computers and having difficuty with this.

Thank you for your time in reading this and hopefully someone on the forum with more experience will be able to advise.

Paula:cry:

in 1911 he is on the census living at 15 cranbury st. bham but nothing is listed for him being an artist

richard baker aged 37 leather case maker . working at j. b. brookes of gt. charles street. b. banbury oxfordshire
harriet 38 b. bham
louis alfred 12, william henry 10, arthur 7, frederick 5, violet 3, harold 1.

richard and harriet had been married 16yrs. had had 8 children but 2 had died.

Is it possible he did some kind of stage act/music/performing as a hobby in those days? Maybe before he married? :)

up to the 1911 census he appears to have been a portmanteau maker which links him with 1911 being a leather case maker.

Hi Polly. In todays words its a suitcase. My dad used to call my handbag that as there was so much stuff in it.

Hi Everyone

Thank you all for your replies and I am very sorry I could not get back sooner on the site, I was only told about this by a fellow researcher of the Baker's and he did not seem to know anything about him either, I have goggled and all sorts but with no look, thank you shera for the information on richard and his wife and children I was not aware of this and can add this to the info I have, I am hoping to rejoin ancestry soon so can start looking up army records, as I wondered if that was when he was an artist just clutching at straws now I think hoping someone famous could be in the family, you can hope eh

Thank you all again for all your responses. Kind regards Paula
