HOUGHTON FAMILY ...INGLEBY STREET LADYWOOD

quilly

knowlegable brummie
Hi.
I'm looking for information on the Houghton family that lived at 3 bk 62 Ingleby Street Ladywood around 1892 . I think on the 1911 census they were at 47 Eyre street Ladywood. Any information would be helpful.

What type of info are you looking for?

Frederick Houghton married Ann Parsons 28 May 1879, All Saints Bham. Appear to be living on Eyre St in 1901 also. At Ingleby address in 1891 with Ann's parents.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I'm looking at how many children they had, name's ages etc .

Kate Annie b1880, Alfred b1882, George b1885, Frederick James b1886, Lily b1889, Charles William b1892, Adelaide b1892 d1892, Elsie b1895, Walter b1898, Albert Edward b1901 and possibly Violet b1904

All born Birmingham area except Alfred born Birlingham on Worcestershire.

Thank you again for this valuable information it's filled the gaps. Can I ask where you got the information from please?

Update on Violet, she was not the daughter of Frederick and Ann. She appears to be a granddaughter, the illegitimate daughter of Lily born a couple of years later than that listed on the 1911 census, in 1907.

Also (which you may already know), by the 1921 census Frederick appears to have another wife though they don't seem to marry until 1922. Not totally certain what happened to Ann, there are a couple of deaths registered between 1911 and 1921 and I assume one of them is likely to be hers but the ages aren't quite right

Again you might already know but it's possible that Walter was killed in WWI. Here he is on CWGC and there appear to be other records on Ancestry...

Sadly it appears Charles was also killed in WWI...

And even more sadly it appears Alfred was also killed in WWI...

Again thank you for this information. Other than Charles I didn't know much about the Houghton's. I think Frederick died around 1924 and like many people at that time we're buried in public graves at Key Hill and Warstone Lane cemetery. I'm still reaserching them.

Thanks again

Frederick appears to have died in 1936 and buried at Lodge Hill.

Until that time he lived at 4 court 1 (4 back 14) St Martin's St. This map is from 1950...

That's really interesting. I had Ann's name as Prentice not Parsons so can see now why I hadn't got the right information.
Thank you again.
