Hi John,Hi there foki … my ggreat grandmother Mary Price DOB 1740 married George Badger ( Black Patch Gypsy grounds Owned by Gypsies and stolen by Birmingham Council and Bussines interests — I believe there is a public ground park still named this black patch !
Any information re this subject of the family’s Morrall and Badgers / Price/ Smith/Taylor’s and connected subjects and families please ?
I lived near to Black Patch Park until I was 11 years old. As kids it was a regular place to play but sorry John I have no knowledge of its history. It is strange though because there was a family called Morrell living close by to us. Mr Morrell was a Prison Officer at Winson Green Prison. It does seem a coincidence. I’m afraid that’s all I know.Yes that sounds like the place I’ve researched … most kind of you to contact .. anything else that comes your way regarding the families that lived there .. In particular Morrall and Badger and Price … and families linked to them … I know that the Aston family were very much linked in with the Morralls or different spellings but same family murrels / Moran / morrell / Morley / morello etc … I’m under the impression after searching that the family came from Flemish / France ..William the Conqueror and also after wards as escaping religious persecution … the morrall family originally De Morhal ( dark person of the hall ) as in Moors and hall .. I’ve found an Edgerbert Morhal 1300 plus the year … not knowing how they ended up in Staffordshire..presuming for work and earning a living ..
Badgers also over with William the Conqueror and there is a place in Shropshire named Bagget / Bagsor / Badger still there although much smaller and many ruins .. there from 1180 c … many also ended Up Staffordshire area Blackpatch .. marrying into Price or visa versa .. so am presuming the Badgers and Morrell’s were gypsy stock … any info grateful received ..
John Morhal-Hurn …
Ps I’ve reverted to my early relatives name as I was born on the side of the road and abandoned after birth .. some reason or another .. in Leeds 30 June 1951 … I’ve now after 40 years almost 100 percent traced my fathers blood line and ancestry to Yorkshire and Connacht ( only Connacht mind no where else in Ireland ..then Scotland… to Cochran/ Lewis / Bethanasia Boswell who married Wisdom Smith ( self styled prince of the gypsies ) his son Cain Smith married Sarah Taylor who down the line Mitchell ward / Grey / Doe / Beadle - Biddle / Cooper Stephenson / Chippendale / Hurn/ heron / Hearn / Horne … blessings to all
