History of cadby family

Katelindz

Brummie babby
Came across this forum while looking for a photo of 18 hingeston St. Found out my grandmother and her family lived there in 1901. Father was William Cadby, her name was Edith May. She was 15 at that time. Couldn’t stop reading the many stories and posts. I’m not sure how long they lived there yet just starting the research. My grandmother immigrated to Canada in 1919 leaving her family. Seems like it has a very vibrant history. Jotted down many comments for further reading. If anyone has a link or a photo of this location I’d love to see where my Nan grew up.

hi katelindz i think you have already posted on the hingestion street thread and seen all of the photos posted on there..are you seeking help to trace further back from edith may cadby ? if so maybe we can help you and do you live in england or are you in canada?

Hi Kate,

The only 1901 census I can find relating to William Cadby, and his daughter Edith May age 15 living at 18 Hingeston Street is this one. Edith is just called May. She has a brother and 2 sisters.1901 census.jpg

The brother, Alexander, appears to be Linda's illegitimate son.

There is an immigration record from 1926 when visiting Florence, that gives a description of Linda - 5' 4" brown hair, brown eyes, medium complexion.

Just Found that Edith May Cadby Married Oswald Bell in 1904. On the 1911 Census she is living with Oswald and (their daughter Ivy May age 4 and Son Sydney aged 2) at 86 Melton Road Kings Heath Birmingham. The House is still there. The brown door

There is a birth reg in 1905 of an older daughter - not sure where she is in 1911 but that fits with 3 children born and all alive.
