The current fire station is known as Highgate Community Fire Station

Before I left Birmingham, in the 1950's, I played a couple of times at Highgate Fire Station, for the staff dances.

I had forgotten about this building until viewing the #1 posting.

I recall the old Victorian building, but not the frontage of photo #6. Obviously after my time. Eddie

Thank you for the photo of the new fire station at Highgate. Myy grandson is a fire officer there but I have never seen the building. I see they have done away with the idea of having a lot of glass in the doors. Probably a security idea.

The town and Birminghams Fire Brigade unit was formed With five engines, sixteen Hoses , and thirteen Uniforms.

A Municipal fire service began in 1874 ; previously Insurance companies dealt with fires .
The earliest record of fire appears to be what was described in 1313 as the big fire of the town birmingham
During The Civil war Birmingham was attacked by Prince Rupert and 87 houses was burnt.
In 1682 the church warden at st martns in the Bullring Purchased twenty Leather buckets for use in case of of a fire ;
The first Prish fire engine came into use in 1695 under the charge of the aptly named William Burns
On 6 January 182o the thearter Royal in New Street was destroyed by , and two INSURANCE Companies the NORWICH UNION AND
bIRMINGHAM fIRE Office, both claimed there engine had first on the scene,
On 26 August 1878 there was a major fire at a sweep shop in digbeth.
The escape Ldder was unsusable and the shop Owner threw her baby,but the jumping sheets were trampled by a Lrge crowd of on lookers
And the Baby Later DIED sHE HERSELF jUMPED to her Own Death
