Richard Hern (1811-1876) and his wife Mary (nee Haynes c.1811-) moved to Birmingham from Chipping Norton some time around 1847. Children were:

Jane abt 1837
Thomas 1840-1875 (Married Mary Grantham in 1861, several of their 5 children emigrated to Australia)
Alice abt 1842-1878
Mary Ann abt 1846-
Emma abt 1848- (I believe she married John Hill in Birmingham 1866)
Ann abt 1850- (married John Griffin in 1879. My great grandmother)
Richard 1852-
William abt 1855-

Any further information is greatly appreciated.

HI CHRISTINE
Just Been Lookimg At Your Request, Regarding The Hern Family, And I Was Wondering Whether Or Not Have You Spelt It Correctly , Because I Know A Hernes , But I Ihink
They Spell It Different , They Spell There Name If I Am Correct With An Hearne ,
Now , I Don.t Know Whether That Is Spelt With The A, and The e For Bussiness Purposes To Put Above There Office Front Sign I Do Not Know ,But I Can Tell You I Know This Hern Family Very Well And Thomas Hern Was A Solicitor And The Son Is A Richard , Hern And His Wife Was An Carol Hern ,And As Far As I Know

Christine,
Many thanks indeed for the look-up, this is all very useful. I knew about the Richard Hern death date, but not the others. Perhaps I've not been accessing the same sources as you? I used the IGI listings on the Latterday Saints website, I've heard that their information is not comprehensive however. I certainly hadn't noticed these two references. Again, many thanks!

Astonian, thanks for your post, I've seen the name Hern spelt in various records as Hern, Hearne and Herne, I've stuck to the spelling used by my branch of the family when they lived in Birmingham. As I've been unable to trace living members of the "clan" I can't say whether the name is still spelled the same today.

John
