hemmings William

Heath Street

master brummie
In February I asked for your help in tracing the birth of Adelaide Mary Veronica Hemmings having already obtained her marriage and death certs. She was married to my grandfather Albert James Osborne, have come to a complete DEAD END so thought I would go along the route of her father WILLIAM HEMMINGS who unfortunately on her marriage was deceased so no address for him also no info. on his wife, he is noted as a Master Coach Builder and I wondered if there is any way I could check this information out, grateful thanks for any help however small. OH on her marriage cert. one of the witnesses is listed as J.F. Dunleary? The church is no longer standing so no help to be obtained there. Val

Re: William hemmings

Hi Val,

Could your Dunleary be Dunleavy? Theres a James Frank Dunleavy born Aston, Sept 1893 6d 244. He married Ethel Jones June 1926 Bham S 6d 718.

Re: William hemmings

Hello Macca - so quick - have looked at copy of marriage certificate again and you could be right and the area is spot on, will do a bit more investigating, thanks for your prompt reply - regards Val

Re: William hemmings

Om the 1911 census he is listed as Frank Dunleavy aged 17 occupation: Painter. He is living with his parents John & Rachel Dunleavy and 5 younger sisters at 102 Clodeshall Road Saltley (registration district Aston). Interestingly, when I searched for a Dunleavy/Jones birth only one was registered some years after the marriage and the child was named Veronica A Dunleavy March 1946, Merioneth N. 11b 429. May be just coincidence but worth looking into. Searched for William Hemmings but there are so many, hopefully someone with better expertise can help you.

Re: William hemmings

Hi Val

I have followed Adelaide's postings with interest:)
I wonder if this helps? As I seem to remember you mentioning 32 Forster Street given as Bride and Groom's address?
Anyway on the electoral roll in 1935 is Charles and Matilda Mary Ann Hemmings. Isn't this the address for the Osborne's?
Their other address is 90 Palace Road as follows
1912 Charles Hemmings
1920 Charles Hemmings
1922 Charles and Matilda Mary Ann Hemmings
1925 As above
1930 Charles, Matilda Mary Ann, Charles Henry and Florence Beatrice Hemmings
1935 As above
1939 Charles & Matilda Mary Ann Hemmings

In 1911 Charles Hemmings B1886 Bham Iron Moulder
Matilda B1887 Worcester, Kidderminster
Charles Henry B1908 Bham
Florence Beatrice B1910 Bham
Elsie May B1911 Bham

Living at 90 Palace Rd, Small Heath
I wonder if Charles could be a relation to Adelaide?

Re: William hemmings

Wish I was this quick when doing my own research? very interesting what you have found. Adelaide (my fathers mother) only survived until the age of 25 when she died of TB. Interestingly the child of Dunleavy/Jones has the name Veronica who was born many years after Adelaide's death but worth a little further investigation, many thanks - Val

Re: William hemmings

Hello Suzanne, your instant reply is amazing. Yes 32 Forster Street correct. A family have contacted me from the Ancestry site with regard to my connection to Matilda Osborne (re Rook of Kidderminster, their relatives) and her daughter Matilda Mary Ann, it would appear that Matilda married my gt. grandfather George Osborne and Matilda Mary Ann their daughter married a Charles Hemmings, I have asked the question regarding Adelaide but there is no-one of that name in their Hemmings family, Charles siblings are Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary and the years of their births are way off the birth year for Adelaide. I am at a loss but find it hard to push to one side as she is my fathers mother and he was only 2 when she died, so sad. Not sure where to go now - hate these brick walls - regards Val

Re: William hemmings

Hi Val

It does seem a big coincidence that 32 Forster Street featured in the Osborne and Hemming familes:)
Do the people you contacted on Ancestry have the name of the father of Charles Hemmings? I was wondering whether Charles' father could have been a brother to Adelaides Dad, William.

Re: William hemmings

Val
I had a look on ancestry at the tree you mentioned but doesn't seem to give a connection for Adelaid:)
Never mind, keep searching:)

Re: William hemmings

Why dont I think of these things? I do know that Charles Hemmings father was also called Charles born 1848 in Birmingham and married a Elizabeth Baker but haven't delved into whether he had any brothers or sisters but will get onto this immediately - OH Charles senior did spend some time in Winson Green prison in 1881 no idea why and somehow villain and Master Coach Builder dont quite tie-up but who knows - much appreciated Val

Re: William hemmings

Hi Val,

Just found this thread after googling Adelaide and I see that there are several of us trying to move you forward or should I say backwards into your family history!! Hope you got my e-mail,

Cheers

Re: William hemmings

Hello Joan - yes received email and replied - someone said to me that this Family Tree Research would take me years, I did not believe them - I do now! it becomes obsessive................bye for now - Val Brummie from Way Back

Re: William hemmings

Adelaide Veronica Mary Hemmings - Hello Suzanne - any ideas - my brother has found and sent to me an old letter from my fathers brother and in it it mention's that he thought his mother was Spanish? or of Spanish decent? How would I research this - no dates, no addresses, no mothers name just William Hemmings deceased at her wedding in 1917.

Re: William hemmings

Hi Val

Not too sure really other than search passenger ship records on Ancestry? Maybe this is why we can't find a birth record? I will have a think and look on Ancestry. In the meantime someone else may be able to come up with a way forward.

Suzanne

Re: William hemmings

Thanks once more - This 'spanish' connection may be wrong - my father and his brother were only 2 and 3 when Adelaide died, they were looked after by an Aunt and their Gr/mother until their father remarried - which strangely enough I have managed to locate that marriage and family. OH well, you must get hundreds of these 'FRUSTRATING' questions but I appreciate your help - Val
