Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

it seems a strange one doesnt it.

malcolm s hemmings was born 3rd may 1939 in bham 6d 412

the marriage bren mentioned was final qr of 1938 in forest of dean area which means it could still easily be eric and doris baby.

i think your only option is to send for birth of malcolm and specify only wanted if parents are harold and doris.

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

I only mentioned it because of the names and i also did only go back a few years looking for the marriage, if i get time i will look further back, bit busy at the moment

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

Thanks Bren, does put another curve on it. I wonder if either of you good people could look up Peter Hemmings, Malcolm's brother to see if he has the same mother at Malcolm?

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

i believe eric george hemmings b. 27.3.1920 is the son of raymond f hemmings and wife fanny gough who married in aston in 1913.

raymond was harolds brother.

the plot thickens!!

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

Hi Shera.

I had forgotton about Eric (my uncle)!!! Raymond Hemmings and Fanny Gough were my paternal grandparents and Eric one of my dads brothers. He married Iris Cronan c 1949 and had one son Paul Hemmings. Of course he could have married twice!

Harold George Hemmings born December 1896 who i was enquiring about was Eric George Hemmings's Uncle. As you say the plot thickens! :D

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

Hi Bren

I know Malcolm died - 10 years or more ago. Peter is still living and i am sorry i am unsure who was the eldest. Peter married a Vi (could be violet, vivivenne?) and as far as i know lived or still lives in Hollywood by the Maypole in Birmingham. I have written to him in the past with no response!!!!!! very frustrating.

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

Thanks very much for that information Bren. Excellent of you to take your time to help me. I do appreciate it.

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

Hi Lindz, just picked up on this thread.

As the Hemmings family is but a twig on my extended tree, I have not really researched them in great detail.

I already have most of the info supplied but the 'rogue' marriage of Doris and Eric in 1938 must be a massive coincidence because Doris May & Harold George Hemmings were still together in 1939 and Doris' mother Nellie was at the same address in Bordesley Park Road. Or did she have Eric on the go too? :D There was 20 years between them!

Another query I have is Eric & Iris' son Paul, noted as c1951. Not found that birth - upto 1935 anyway.... must check further .... maybe not with Cronan mmn?

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

I have a (Joe who is also an enigma) John Joseph Hemmings c 1880-1890 (who lived for many years from around 1020-1940 ish all over the England with my Gran and her children under the name of Manley).
He had Birmingham connections to (his elder sisters) a Lousia Hemmings (whom I believe never married ) and a Gladys Hemmings (Married name not known). Gladys lived with her husband in a Massonette in Mount Pleasant when I visited them around 1958ish after Joe had died in Yorkshire.
Gladys had about ten children, one of her daughter's was name Zoe (whom I also met at that time), she too was a married lady with children in the mid 1950's .
Any help, or connection would be great.

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

Hi Pom, i think we have chatted regarding John Joseph and Mount Pleasant which i think was/is in Mosely before. I was dragged up in Kings Heath and as far as i know never met any of that side. I will email a cousin who is twice removed from myself but also a nee Hemmings, they may know of them. Be in touch x

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

Hiya Icarus

I am but a leaf on your tree! lol I rang my Aunty Joyce and she doesnt remember too much as she was very young when Eric married. She does remember a whoo har regarding the age difference between Eric and Irish Cronan. She also remembers how worried the family was when she was pregnant with Paul, so thats confirmed, Paul is the son of Eric and Iris. Bonus!! Aunty thought Paul was born around 1947. He has since passed away, died around 2003-2004. As far as Aunty knows Eric was never married before but she did reiterate that she was only a kiddy at the time. Hmmmm must delve a bit deeper here.

Re: Harold Hemmings c1896

Thanx Lindz, this one really bugs me. I had so little info' about my family when first startimg out and have traced them all now except (Old Joe)John Joseph whom I believe to be the father of two of my Aunties.

Another strange coincidence perhaps but one of the Hemmings chaps married a Manley in 1970.
