I've found a relative on the absent voter list of 1918 and I don't understand the associated acronyms: "Driver 5th A. Aux, A.S.C." Can anyone decipher that please?
Driver - i.e. of horses pulling something. ASC = Army Service Corps whose main task was transport support. 5th A Aux is more of a mystery - Aux is Auxiliary. 5th A might be 5th Army.
Colin B. Many thanks for that. I've never ordered anything from that site, is it worth it? Do they give a lot of details of the soldier or is it just a formal document?
its just another piece in the jigsaw.
Looked on Ancestry can't find anything on service records or pensions, and nothing in National Roll of the Great War.
Colin B. As I suspected Colin I don't think I'll order a copy. Really wanted to know the regiment etc and you've provided that info for me. Thanks for your time and patience it's appreciated.
