help researching an ancestor's convictions

Hi - I have an slightly elusive ancestor who has turned up in a court case at Hanley Police Court, Staffs in 1932 and convicted for a 6 month spell in prison with hard labour! The article mentions previous convictions. Is there anywhere I can go to try and find more details of this and previous convictions/court cases, where he was held, etc? He is Walter Wilson born abt 1898 (poss Wolverhampton) and living in Barford Street, B'ham in 1920/30s with wife Agnes and child Rachel (found on the 1921 census). A bit of a 'ne'er do well' by the look of it! Thanks for any replies!

Looking at the Birmingham and Stoke records, ,, I could find no record in either place of earlier offences under that name, though there could have been offences elsewhere. There was however a report in 1939 of a man of that name at the Shelton Iron Works

Ah ! In August at Hanley sentenced to 3 consecutive periods of 2 months. Obtaining money under false pretences. Details given in Evening Sentinel.

Did he go straight after this ?
Yes, this is the one I have. Not sure if he went straight after this or just didn't get caught!

Hmm - this could be him too. There is a family story of traveller links which might tie in with fairground(?) ruse and the 'wife and child' fits although his 'child' would have been 20 yrs by this date!
