Hi, I am trying to find out some more information about my Grandad. He died long before I was born and I'd like to find out as much as I can.
I've found his medal card info on Ancestry but don't know how I'd trace which batallion he was in.
His details are:
Ernest Slinn. Pte, then Cpl 538 Royal Warwicks. He was born in Birmingham in 1896.
Thank you

Welcome Lisa:)

We have a very good member by the name of Terry Carter who is good at this work.
But don't be surprised that you get a few posts from others who know more about this work than myself so don't give up they are good here.

By the way my Dad was in the Royal Warwickshires in WW2

If you're down this way go along to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment museum in Warwick. I got a lot of help from the guy there and managed to get a copy of some of my Grandad's records -hand written ones in a register. Not to be confused with those which may be in Kew.

Hi Lisa, your grandad was an original member of the 15th Royal Warwickshires better known as the 2nd Birmingham (Pals) he volunteered at Birmingham July - Aug 1914. He was in C company 11th Platoon. They did their training, and was camped in Sutton Park, he landed in France the end of November 1915.

Hope this is a little help to you, Charlie

Lisa66, Does the name Howard Slinn mean anything to you...Cat

Thank you all very much for your help and sharing your knowledge :)

Sorry Cat, I've no relatives that I know of with the name Howard Slinn

The name E.Slinn 538, appeared in the Birmingham Daily Post Casualty list that was published on 11 June 1917. The actual date of his wounds would have taken place around one to two weeks before.

Regards

Terry
