A Nicklin photo I have not seen before. A fine set of Georgian cottages, 1-5 Hawthorne Road. Just off the photo to the left was The Lodge, which had been the lodge to Oak Hill House. Now all gone, the cottages replaced by a car park for a rather dull-looking mini shopping centre.

its new to me too mike..what a crying shame those lovely cottages have gone...here is todays view opposite the white swan as you say its a car park now...would be interesting to try and find out the history of the cottages and who once lived in them

Cannot find Hawthorne Road Edgbaston listed in any of the directories I have looked at (not all obviously). So difficult to find on cnesus. However in 1954 it was a Mr & Mrs Peters at no 4; Eric Jones at no 2 in 1954 and bus conductor Paul nugent at no 2 in 1950.

It appears on erolls in Edgbaston ward.
Will post when I put laptop on.
