hi all hope everyone is well

i have found out a bit of info regarding albert edward hatfield but i need help please.
he was killed on 18/02/1940 on the hms daring when it was torpedoed in norwiegan waters and his age is shown as 40yrs on the commonwealth war graves site and a dob 20/08/1899 is shown on the national archieves site but i can't find him in the bmd records nor does he show on the 1901 census his parents were arthur john and mary ann hatfield

Possibly he was adopted. There are about 4 albert edwards born in the area that year(from ancestry)(I think they would have kept the christain names) but unfortunately lots of albert E.s

Could this be them? I found this one 1901 census with an Arthur, Annie and Albert, but Albert is down as a brother and is 22.

Could Albert have been fibbing when he joined up ? It was known to happen if they were older, or younger than was stated on the requirements. Birth dates and info' were not always checked if a man was willing to join up.....

I've found more than one family member who has fibbed on documents in my own tree!
