I have begun researching my family history and have found out that my Grandfather Joseph Harris was born 08 Jan 1910 in 99 Dudley Road, Birmingham (Birmingham Workhouse Infirmary). His birth was registered by a T.M. Hardie who was the Master of the Infirmary at that time. I am wondering if anyone can help me with any further information on my grandfather?

There were 2 Joseph Harris in the 1911 census age 1 year and living in Aston, and 2 other living in Solihull and Rugby. Have you any other names say sisters or brothers names? Without some more info, we cannot isolate him. The Aston addresses were 7 Thimblemill Lane and the other Great Francis St. Ring any bells?
Lynda:)

Not sure if this helps but here are the births for the first quarter of 1910... if you get the birth cert' it will have more info' on... When applying if you have his mother's name you can say that is the only one you want...

Thank you for the replies so far.
Pomgolian. Unfortunately my computer would not let me open the Javascript, but I will keep trying.

Lynda Harvey.

I have Joseph's parents as being
WILLIAM JOHN GEORGE HARRIS was born Abt. 1882 in Birmingham. He married ROSE STAMFORD (OR ROSE ELLEN STANFIELD) 1903 in Aston, Birmingham. She was born Abt. 1881 in Aston, Birmingham.
As for brothers and sisters. I have so far found out.
ROSE HARRIS, b. Abt. 1902, Aston, Birmingham.

1911 - Living with parents and siblings at 7 Thimble Mill Lane, Aston Manor, Birmingham.

ii. GEORGE HARRIS, b. Abt. 1907, Aston, Birmingham.

1911 - Living with parents and siblings at 7 Thimble Mill Lane, Aston Manor, Birmingham.

and then Joseph who was at the same address. What I would love to find out is what happened to him. I vaguely remember being told that he has split from my nan Doris May Owen, but I do not know when. I have a feeling it may have had something to do with the war and what happened to him. Also I have some information that suggests he served in World War 2 as a Warrant Officer Class 1 RSM. Served in the 8th Army under Montgomery. But I know nothing else. What is a shame is that my family never spoke of him, which has made it all the more important that I find out about him.

There are admissions and discharges registers for Dudley Road hospital /workshouse in the Birmingham City Archives. You can search the National Archives central indexes to see what info the Birmingham archives hold. This is the link.

This is the link for the Birmingham City Archives and if you send them an e-mail asking for the info you want they will let you know the reference numbers of the records and if they are available and copy costs etc.
