Hare & Hounds Kings Heath

bobsummers

Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P.

I'm a bit taken aback that I could not find a thread of this fantastic old pub "The Hare and Hounds", on the corner of York Road next to the old Ritz dance hall.
I visited it for the 1st time since the mid 60's on Friday Halloween night, and it blew me away inside. Still has old tiled walls and lovely floor boards with Stiletto marks all over. The atmosphere was tremendous in both the rooms down stairs, blues & stax music being played, and a famous Brumie Steve Gibbon's band was playing in the function room upstairs.
I can't Wait to go back!! Real Ale as well!
Anyone got a photo?

I only ever went in the Hare & Hounds once. It was one Christmas time around the early seventies. Me and my mate went in the doubles bar in York St.

A double for the price of a single of whatever spirit you wanted. We spent the night drinking double, doubles of whiskey. We rolled out of the doors at 10.30. but it didn't stop us calling at the Oxford Club Moseley.

I find it strange that I have no photo of this pub in my collection to upload, I must start looking for one.

If I still drank, you would never see me near a bottle of gin, the smell on its own would put me off. Whiskey was my tipple.

It still has live music in the room upstairs. I've been to a few there recently. The word 'basic' comes to mind when I think of it.
