Hi all I have found an old hankerchief hoisery wallet in my nannas things I can't find any info about it. Would anyone mind looking at the photos and tell me what they think thanks.
Welcome Danielle. I think the name on the stud is Newey Brothers Ltd BHam.
Possibly a wallet for keeping hankerchiefs and stockings in one place when travelling. An interesting item, especially as almost no-one uses a hanky these days ! Possibly 1920s/30s.
What material is it made from? Leather and satin lined ?
I think it is leather and satin you may be right and the inside it feels hard like a thin peice of card. It's really interesting. I think my nanna has used it as a purse as it smells of her perfume haha
defininately newey bros from brearley street...building still there but not as neweys...they certainly made the stud but im not sure if they would have made the wallet...if you go to post 18 on below thread another member has posted a photo of the same stud..
I'm researching my family tree and wonder if anyone has any info. on Newey Bros. factory which was situated on the corner of Brearley St. and Summer Lane?
They manufactured hair grips and pins.My father Ken Hopkins worked there for many years from the 40s to the 70s.My elder brother Mike was an employee in the early 60s.
Any help appreciated,
Pete H.
I agree the studs below look abit newer don't they. I cannot find a picture of the same thing please let me know if anyone finds a match it would be interesting to see if anyone else has one
i agree they may not be identical to the one posted on the newey bros thread but yours is definately made by newey bros..they most likely made different types of studs..fingers crossed someone else has one of those wallets...lovely to keep
