I was there from 1959 to 1963/64 anyone remember me Charlie Ingram. Guys in my class were David Burnell, Ian Purnell, Tim Hall, there was a guy who played trombone really well passed his exams easily. Teachers I remember; Mr Faux, Nick Whitehead and Berwyn Jones sports teachers. There was a teacher we called Bona used to have a cane up his sleave.

Anyone remember similar??

Hi Charlie:

If Handsworth Wood School is in Church Lane then you can access the Friends Reunited site...it's free and put the school name in the search engine. on the top left hand side of the site. You will be able to access the names of people who attended in the same years as you attended and see who is listed on there. www.friendsreunited.co.uk

Hi Charlie - I went to Handsworth Wood Girls, left in 1959. As Jenny said go to Friends Reunite, I have had a number of school friends contact me from there especially now it is free. Mo

Hi Charlie, I remember you, but you might not remember me. I went to Handsworth Wood 1965 - 1969, I remember you from elsewhere.

If I am correct you were the son of Bill Ingram the Caretaker at
Cherry Orchard Primary School, and your house was next door, and I think your bedroom was at the front, because you used play your records loudly. My name, well its Nick Swain well known in concentric circles.

I think your Mom & Dad moved to Stratford Upon Avon to run a caravan park ?????

You are correct that is me :^) I also remember the name Nick Swain, but, I can not put a face to the name. It would be nice to find out how life unfolded for you. Dad and mum are both deceased now.

Charles (Charlie)

Hi Charles,

Well despite my protestations that my memory is hopeles, I didn't too bad remembering you from about 1959/60.

A brief resume of my life, left Cherry Orchard in 1965 to go to Handwsworth Wood S.M. then left in 1969 to go into the Army for a while, got board and became an Apprentice Toolmaker, then variuos jobs in different industries. From 1985 to 2006 I was a Logistics Manager.

In between all that moved to Droitwich in 1973, got married in 1978 to a Great Barr girl, moved back to Handsworth Wood have two lovely daughters 23 & 19. Presently living in Walsall Wood. My parents are deceased also, My two Brothers both still with us went to Cherry Orchard,
Grant now 61, and Clive 65 he lives in Canada.

Sorry that's about as potted as I can get 50 years of my history.

I remember Mr Ingram our geography teacher. I think that he wore dark rimmed glasses. I was at HW Boys 1965 to 69. I remember a lot of teachers and fellow pupils names.
I remember Mr Davies our English teacher going to help the recovery following the Aberfan disaster.

I attended at Handsworth Wood "Borstal" from 1961 -66. I remember you Charlie and many other reprobates. Here are a few other names. Richard Padmore, John Homer, Dave McKenzie, Pete Russell, Kenny Purnell. Geof Yates Phil Bonsor and of course the two Jones brothers.

The secret cane carrier was a Mr Jones. I remember that he left in about 1963/4 after an attempted assault on one pupil with a cricket bat. Bona (Jones) was never seem again. I think the head teacher (Edgar Cecil Millington) thought it best that Bona left.

I also remember Nick Whithead and Berwyn Jones. He had his olympic bronze medal on display in the entrance hall. (Both PE teachers were total B*****ds. Best teacher when I was there was (Uncle) Les' Nunney., six foot tall and built like a brick toilet but a great teacher (unless you upset him). Just remembered, he was a crack shot at throwing the blackboard rubber. Also remember Jack Faux, and the English teacher Walter Casey.

Not bad for someone in his late 70s.
