I had a mate who lived just behind where the camera was on the 'modern' photo, and I well remember many times waiting for a No 11 bus at the stop on the island. It was a 'fare stage' and some nights the buses would sit there for anything up to half an hour while the crew had their cuppa. It looks really semi-rural and up-market on the 'modern' photo, doesn't it?
